The City of Tahlequah currently collects a 0.75% sales tax that supports a Capital Improvement Bond Package. This existing tax has been instrumental in funding various projects, such as:
- Tahlequatics Center
- NSU Event Center
- South Muskogee Avenue expansion
- Cedar Avenue expansion
- Softball Fields at Anthis Brennan Sports Complex.
- Fire Engine & Equipment
- Police Technology
- Callout/Sirens
- Greenbelt Development - Walking Trails
- Library Improvements
- Fourth Street
- Bluff Avenue
- East Allen Road
- North Grand Avenue
This tax is scheduled to expire in 2028.
The City is planning to hold a public vote in late 2026 to consider extending the 0.75% sales tax to fund a new round of capital improvement projects. If approved, this would be a continuation of the existing tax rate and would not result in a tax increase.
To prepare for this potential bond issue, a committee has been formed to evaluate possible projects for inclusion. Community input is an important part of this process.
